Musée du Fort

Conveniently located in front of the majestic Chateau Frontenac in historic Old Quebec, the Musée du Fort is a popular stop for visitors who are curious about the famous battles and historical figures that defined Quebec City. The Musée du Fort brings the city’s rich military history to life through its spectacular state-of-the-art sound and light show that illustrates the many battles and bombardments that took place during the 18 th century.

Sound and Light Show

From the pivotal Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759 that determined the fate of New France to Benedict Arnold's unsuccessful siege on the city in 1775, the Musée du Fort provides a remarkable history lesson with its multimedia show which has been a popular attraction for many years. The 30-minute presentation uses a 400-square-foot, 3D scale model of the city circa 1750 to explain the six sieges the city endured. Music, film, and other captivating visual effects create an entertaining and engrossing lesson in history.

Travel Back in Time

The Musée du Fort houses a selection of 18th century artifacts within its 200-year old walls. A timeline using ancient objects and illustrations tells the story of the history of the region, from the first pioneering explorers who settled in New France to the time of the British conquest. The museum's boutique boasts a massive collection of both English and French historical books, collectible soldier figurines and small handmade cannons, as well as a wide variety of military toys.

Group Activities

With its esteemed historical content and sound and light show, the Musée du Fort is not only a great starting point for visitors wanting to learn more about the city’s volatile past- it is also an excellent educational activity for students studying history and geography.
